Celebrating the life of

Kevin (Catfish) Jackson

June 02, 1961 - April 04, 2024

 Kevin (Catfish) Jackson

There is absolutely no doubt that Kevin “Catfish” Jackson intentionally made the world a much better place. His love for his wife, children and grandchildren was infinite. The person Kevin loved best in this world was his wife Libby, whom he affectionately called his best friend and “The Family Oak”.  He and Libby faithfully reared their children Elizabeth, Kev, and Mary Margaret and loved their spouses Tyler, Kate, and Thomas like their very own. Kevin thanked God daily for his children and eight grandchildren, and he was immensely proud of his family.

Kevin was born on June 2, 1961, in Rome, Georgia to the late June and Richard Jackson of Carterville, Georgia. Kevin graduated from Carterville High School and attended the University of Georgia where he was a three-year letterman on the University Georgia Football Team under Coach Vince Dooley and Coach Erk Russell.  He was a member of the 1980 National Championship Football Team, the 1982 and 1983 Southeastern Conference Championship Teams and voted co-captain of the 1983 team.  He received the prestigious Wallace Butts Award, an honor awarded to an outstanding football athlete “That pays the price”.  In 1984, Jackson was a graduate assistant coach under Vince Dooley’s Cotton Bowl Championship Team. He was also a member of the Lambda Chi Fraternity. Kevin was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, golfing and loved sharing his many passions with friends and family, and especially a good joke or two, or three.

Locally, he served on several boards, United Community Bank, Bethesda Academy, CURE, Savannah Technical College and the Savannah Economic Development Authority, where he was also the chairman. He was an Honorary Sheriff sworn in officially by Sheriff John Wilcher.  He enjoyed his many affiliations with other members of all those boards, as well as, the Rotary Club of Savannah and other charitable, civic and business groups.

He received numerous awards over the years such as The Savannah State Award of Excellence for Noteworthy Entrepreneurship, The Sheriff’s Award of Excellence, The Savannah Business Hall of Fame Junior Achievement Award, and Dancing with The Stars “People’s Choice Award” for Alzheimers.

He was a member of The Oglethorpe Club, The Savannah Golf Club, The Chatham Club, The Century Club (Board Member), The Cotillion Club, The Sage Valley Golf Club, and The Gridiron Secret Society.

Kevin was appointed by Governor Nathan Deal to the Georgia Economic Development Board, The Lottery Board and The Georgia Ports Authority Board, and he was appointed to the Department of Natural Resources Board in 2023 by Governor Brian Kemp.

Richard Kevin Jackson is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of EnviroVac Holdings, LLC., the southeast’s premier provider of industrial cleaning and Environmental services. Jackson founded the company in May, 1999 with four employees.  His leadership and passion have become benchmarks for his tenure at the helm of the company that now employs over 800 employees.

Additionally, Kevin was very impactful to so many and was dedicated to making a difference in his community with involvement in several of the following organizations, CURE for Childhood Cancer, The Alzheimer’s Association, Bethesda Academy, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, The Gallant Few, Georgia Historical Society, Georgia Southern University, Habitat for Humanity, Heritage Foundation, Kids & Pros Football Camp, AMBUCS, Lymphoma and Leukemia Society, Relay for Life, American Cancer Society, Savannah Feed the Hungry, The United Way, The University of Georgia, The 200 Club, The Pollack Family Foundation, and Savannah Christian Preparatory  School.

Kevin left to be with his Lord and Savior on April 4, 2024. He is survived by Libby, his wife and soulmate of over 40 years, his children and their spouses, Elizabeth and Tyler Sumner, Kev and Kate Jackson, Mary Margaret and Thomas Cone and eight precious grandchildren, Jackson, Baker, Field, Trip, Sara Collins, Will, Luke, and #8, along with several nieces and nephews.

Kevin “Catfish” Jackson lived large, but loved even larger. He was a one in a million man, and he was truly “Bigger than Life” and without question, it was a life well lived and a life full of happiness, of laughter and of love. He will be sadly missed by many.

Kevin’s funeral will be held at Christ Church Episcopal, 28 Bull Street on April 9, at 2:00pm with a Celebration of Life to follow at the Savannah Golf Club, 1661 East President Street.

There will be a private family burial at Bulldog Haven in Oconee Hill Cemetery in Athens, Georgia.

The family request that remembrances be sent to anyone of the charities listed above that Kevin was associated with throughout his life.

GUEST BOOK

Lobby and family, I had the pleasure of knowing Kevin and working along side his Primary Care physician for many years. He was a man that lit up a room even when he felt the lowest, always asking how you are and caring, he was full of energy and gentle kindness is what he always showed me. I thought of him like a big teddy bear. My heart feels your pain, I am so very sorry for your loss. Truly a wonderful man.

What a wonderful tribute to a very deserving man. Although I never got to meet "catfish" in person ,my father, who passed away in February 2021 talked about him often and I felt like I knew him. They served on the Georgia Ports Authority together and my dad considered him a special friend. Please know my whole family is thinking of you. James A Walters Family.

I only got to know Kevin briefly, during the production of the recent television commercial for St. Joseph's Candler. But I felt like I had had made a great friend during that time, and I am so sorry that relationship cannot develop. And I understand the huge void that the loss of a great person like Kevin leaves. I feel a bit better knowing that Kevin lived more in his sixty-some years than any 3 other people that I've met. He got it all in, and left this world at his peak. I have lots of out-take footage of Catfish from that shoot that I can give you if you would like it. He was absolutely bigger than life that entire day and there are some great moments on video.

As most of Kevin's friends believe that this life is a preparation for the next, we know that the biggest team Kevin plays for is Team Jesus. His spiritual gift of encouragement to us was as amazing. As his family and friends mourn today, tomorrow, let us be encouraged that Kevin is playing first string in Heaven for Jesus.

Coach Jackson was such a tremendous role model to my brother and me throughout high school. I am forever grateful for his advice, leadership, and generosity. The game of football taught me so many valuable life lessons through the guidance of Coach J. I’ll always remember him as a leader of men and a true role model. Our condolences to all of the Jacksons

- John and Anna Burke, Mountain Brook, AL

I had the pleasure to be around and play under Kevin Jackson during my high school years at Savannah Christian Prep School. Coach Jackson was a lightning rod of a man. His attitude, energy and passion for the game were infectious to every one he came across. Jackson was a tough, but fair coach. He wanted everyone to be the best version of themselves, which was evident with how he pushed us hard on the field and in the weight room. He was also privy to flashing his hardware from his days as a UGA athlete to us kids, not as a brag, but as a symbol of what we could accomplish if we put our all into it. Not only did he whip us into form on the field, he shaped many of us off the field too. Some of my fondest memories of Coach Jackson come from what our team would colloquially call "Team Night". Maybe not the most creatively named, but this jovial event would occur on Thursday nights during the season and would serve as a respite from the week's grueling practices. The food, often provided by Jackson himself, was good, but the greatest part was the fellowship. Stories were shared, jokes were told and lessons were conveyed. It's here where Coach Jackson, as well as the other coaches, would let their guards down for a few hours and invite us into their faith with pointed parables and speeches. It was a time to bond not only as a team, but as human beings. It is unfortunate that I did not get to spend much time with Coach Jackson post-graduation, but if I've learned anything in my admittedly short time on this planet, it's that God and the universe guide you to cross paths with those you need at a certain points in your own journey. Looking back, the four years I spent around Coach feel like a passing glance, but during that time he showed me many things. How to work and carry yourself like a champion. How you should be charitable to those around you. How to embrace your passions and live life passionately. These lessons, and others, certainly imprinted on an impressionable teen going through a tough time in his life. You never get to spend as long as you want, or feel you deserve, with someone, but their impact resonates long after you part ways. So while our time was short, and I am forever grateful for everything Coach Jackson said to and did for me. I wish to, on behalf of my mother and I, extend our deepest and sincerest condolences to Coach Jackson's family and friends. The world lost a great man, undeniably devout in his faith and passionate about his family and Georgia Bulldogs. Words cannot heal the hurt you must be feeling, but just know his memory will be celebrated long into the future. May he Rest In Power. -Joshua Garland

I knew Mr. Kevin through my Dad, Bennett Craft. They have been friends for many years. I think they bonded over their love for UGA football! Kevin was a good man to know and a good friend to have. I know you know that based on all the articles, posts on facebook, and the comments posted. I have been thinking of your family and how this has left a huge void in your hearts. You are so blessed to have so so many pictures, videos, articles, and memories to look back on. He was so loved and admired in this community and all across the state of GA. I am so sorry for your loss.

I am sorry to hear of his passing and your loss. He was very close to his family here in Cartersville,GA from the time he was born until he graduated from UGA. To this day, we still share countless family stories about him among us with love, admiration, and smiles on our faces. He meant a lot to everyone he met, and I'm happy to see that followed him as he established himself and began growing his family there in Savannah. His loss is deeply felt, whether it began on April 4th of this year for some of you, or well over 30 years ago for some of us here, especially me, my brother Joey, and my father Joe. We never tired of hearing of his accomplishments and meeting his family from time to time when the occasion arose. We took great pride in everything he did, knowing where he began and where he ended up, it is truly an inspiration to all, and a life well lived. He is still revered as the most successful member of our family, followed by our uncle Ray, and uncle Gene, who also took great pride in him. It is my wish that God bless and grant peace to Libby, Elizabeth, Lil Kev, Mary Margaret, and their spouses and children, and to comfort and guide them in their time of need.
